Quality Methodology
Since there are fewer more critical aspects to our
merchants businesses than processing their credit card and POS data, we
have adopted the Six Sigma quality methodology to ensure we deliver our
clients the highest quality products and services.
Six Sigma, was popularized by Motorola and then
evangelized by General Electric. We’ve taken many of the concepts of the Six Sigma quality
methodology and applied them to new and existing projects that we
undertake.
To achieve Six Sigma quality, a process must produce
no more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. An
"opportunity" is defined as a chance for nonconformance, or not
meeting the required specifications. This means we need to be nearly
flawless in executing our key processes. Six Sigma is a vision we strive
toward and a philosophy that is part of our business culture.
At its core, Six Sigma revolves around a few key
concepts:
|
Critical to Quality:
|
Attributes most important to the client
|
|
Defect:
|
Failing to deliver what the client wants
|
|
Process Capability:
|
What the process can deliver
|
|
Variation:
|
What the client sees and feels
|
|
Stable Operations:
|
Ensuring consistent, predictable processes to
improve what the client sees and feels
|
|
Design for Six Sigma:
|
Designing to meet clients needs and process
capability
|
The fundamental objective of the Six Sigma
methodology is the implementation of a measurement-based strategy that
focuses on process improvement and variation reduction through the
application of Six Sigma improvement project.
This is accomplished through the use of two Six Sigma
sub-methodologies: DMAIC and DMADV. The Six Sigma DMAIC process (define,
measure, analyze, improve, control) is an improvement system for existing
processes falling below specification and looking for incremental
improvement. The Six Sigma DMADV process (define, measure, analyze,
design, verify) is an improvement system used to develop new processes or
products at Six Sigma quality levels. It can also be employed if a current
process requires more than just incremental improvement.

Solution's Implementations
Using the DMADV methodology, we have
developed an over 70 page implementation guide that ensures we capture
all the merchant data (WAN, LAN, POS, card processing, etc.) to deliver
a timely and accurate merchant IP-based processing transport solution.
The guide also serves as a "client
deliverable" that is handed off to our client at the end of our
implementation engagement to provide documentation of our solution and
to be utilized by the clients support organization should that ever
become necessary.
Utilizing the "improve" and "control"
aspects of DMAIC we continue to refine our implementation guide
utilizing the principles of Six Sigma.
