Erickson Oil engages IPMS to provide in-store integration and
gateway services to their C-Store locations. The project includes
integrating, Ruby and Gilbarco POS, ATM, Check, Money Orders, and
Pre-Paid Phone Cards to operate via an IP broadband network provided by
Cybera Inc. The benefits of this project to the customer are quite
significant said Chris Etter, IPMS President. By optimizing each
store’s utilization of the broadband network, transaction speed is
greatly enhanced, and phone line requirements reduced. In fact, Mr.
Etter went on to say “C-Stores, due to the nature of their POS
environment, have a tremendous opportunity for both functional and
financial improvement. As a general rule, we always expect monthly hard
dollar savings to exceed the costs in a project like this, and that
doesn’t account for the pure, non-financial, functionality
enhancements”.

IP Merchant Solutions has
successfully past the stringent
CISP security audit for Visa International.
Chris Etter, President if IP Merchant Solutions said "The audit was
conducted by an independent audit firm authorized by Visa International.
The audit was conducted over a 4 week timeframe and I'm very pleased to
announce that no changes were required in our methodology or our
connectivity to various Processors." He continued to say "We have been
using triple DES (3DES) encryption from the start of the business and we
don't store data either locally or on the network. So we were
confident in our data security but we felt that the expense and effort to
become certified would be a benefit to our clients. And we can all
sleep better at night knowing that we went the extra step to become
certified." MasterCard is coming out with its own certification
shortly and American Express subsequent to MasterCard. Presently
MasterCard honors the Visa CISP compliance and is expected to have a nearly
mirrored program for certification as Visa. Mr. Etter said "when
MasterCard introduces their formal program, we will certainly participate in

Hospitality Technology: Vantage Point
Faster
Transactions, Lower Costs: The Story of ZAO Noodle Bar
By
Deepak Wanner
President, Precidia Technologies Inc.
How can a restaurant
gain the speed and cost benefits of an IP-based transaction processing
solution, without the capital and training expenses required by an IP
terminal? ZAO Noodle Bar faced this dilemma, and today has deployed an
inexpensive, seamless solution to eliminate monthly dial line costs and
speed transactions.
Founded in 1997, ZAO
Noodle Bar is an Asian Noodle restaurant headquartered in San Francisco,
California. With 5 locations in the United States, ZAO has taken the food
service market by storm with
fresh, made-to-order exotic foods at
accessible prices.
As restaurant
operators know, the foodservice hospitality business is highly competitive,
and customers can be fickle. The successful merchant needs to continually
evaluate every aspect of the business, to ensure customers receive excellent
value and service, converting them to return business. Transaction
processing is no exception, with sales increased by 1% for every 6 seconds
saved in transaction times, according to industry insiders.
While most restaurant
managers are happy with their existing hospitality POS system, usually a PC
cash register, the growth of IP has provided new options for merchants
looking to keep communication costs low and improve transaction speeds. Many
of these merchants, who often have access to broadband, turn to IP
terminals. IP terminals offer a dramatic reduction in transaction speeds,
from more than 12 seconds per transaction to under 3. While these
transaction speeds are impressive, they don’t come without a cost. IP
terminals are expensive – today, more than 5 years after the first IP
terminal was released, a typical unit will cost the retailer $350-600. In
addition, the merchant must also consider the resources required to retrain
staff on new equipment.
ZAO wanted to retain
their existing PC cash register, which worked well for their business. Their
objective was to improve transaction speeds and lower their communications
costs, all without replacing existing equipment. While this may seem like a
tall order, Precidia Technologies provides a product line that does just
that.
ZAO turned to IP
Merchant Solutions (IPMS), a solution provider delivering a secure,
Internet-based, credit card transport solution. ZAO Noodle Bar’s existing
POS system is a PC cash register running off-the-shelf software, connected
to their processor by dedicated dial line. By using Precidia’s IP access
device to convert the dial-based transaction to IP, IP Merchant Services is
able to seamlessly connect ZAO’s cash registers to a broadband, 3DES, VPN
connectivity solution. This set up facilitates the secure delivery of credit
card transactions over the Internet through IPMS’s connectivity to ZOA
Noodle Bar’s credit card processor. With this connection established,
transaction authorization takes place via broadband WAN without changing how
cashiers enter transactions. With this solution implemented, each individual
transaction takes less than 4 seconds to authorize and the use of IP cuts
monthly costs by eliminating the dedicated dial line.
Chris Etter, President
of IP Merchant Solutions commented about the implementation: “This was a
good decision for ZAO Noodles. Precidia’s product gave them the ability to
convert the dial-based transport to their processor to IP. This offered
them significantly increased transaction speed and the ability to reduce
their monthly communications costs. The implementation was quick and all
equipment continues to perform flawlessly, ensuring ZAO can continue to
offer stellar customer service.”
ZAO Noodles President
& CEO Matthew Baizer says the move is in keeping with ZAO Noodle Bar’s
strategy to keep costs low and offer industry leading service: “We pride
ourselves on delivering an industry leading dining experience. Technology at
the point of sale is a part of the customer’s dining experience. The ability
to receive fast credit authorization with Precidia’s IP converter and IPMS’s
unique IP-based transport solution has contributed to customer satisfaction,
while lowering our costs.”
Precidia’s line of
POSConnect products are all designed to connect merchant transaction
processing equipment to broadband networks for faster transactions and lower
costs. Its POSLynx products provide excellent ROI to merchants by allowing
up to four POS terminals to be converted to IP. The Precidia Management
Server, sold with the POSLynx220 IP converter, improves the deployment of IP
converters, by allowing all devices to be configured remotely, from one PC.
This capability will ease the burden on merchants who lack in house
technical resources.
